So today was the day. My boy is 6 month old and he crawled for the first time. He has been working on it for quite some times now.
At 9 weeks he first started getting on his knees
At 3.5 months he was able to get up on his toes, but then would fall over.
By 4.5 months he was on his hands and knees rocking back and forth.
Then by 5.5 months he started reaching for things while up on his hands and knees.
Today I had him on the floor and he got up on his hands and knees (he loves doing it all the time) and I had my nifty new tablet out. So I brought up a lovely picture of him and another of him and my husband that my mother-in-law took yesterday. He absolutely loves looking at pictures of himself, or any smiling baby for that matter.
I figured it would be motivation, so I set it in front of him and gave him cheers and claps. Unsure at first, he placed one hand out, then scooted his knee. He had gotten that far before but never followed up with the other hand or knee. And then he did! He looked at me stunned that he hadn't toppled over, then quickly reached out for the picture, and did exactly that. So loaded him up with kisses then moved the tablet away from him again so he could do it. We did this several times, and he was able to make it halfway across our loving room!
*I wasn't able to get a picture of him actually crawling today because he get's distracted by the camera*
I am so excited and filled with love, but at the same time I am saddened. It is all happening too fast. Once he is on the move, he will be more independent and won't need me as much. I know he is ever growing and learning, but I wish it would slow down. He has met every milestone early, which is so exciting, but it is hard since I can see in the near future our snuggles will be gone. His naps on my chest will be over, and he won't want to be snuggled early in the morning.
So I am soaking up every second I can with him. Thankfully I get to be home all day every day. So in the meantime, I get to figure out how to baby-proof!
