The Non-Cooker's Slow-Cooker Mac 'N Cheese

Mac 'N Cheese is one of those American dinner staples. Whether it comes in the blue box with processed Day-Glo orange cheese, or it is homemade, it makes an appearance on most dinner tables at least a few times a year...for some a few times a week! My household is no exception. My husband loves the Day-Glo and I love the homemade. I have recently broken out my slow-cooker and have been experimenting with different meals that are simple to make. I found a good base recipe for mac 'n cheese, but it didn't get great reviews, so I figured I would tweak it.

My first attempt crashed and burned...literally. It took two days of soaking and then scraping multiple times to get the charred hunks of cheese off the side (I blogged about it and included a picture...it was bad....). Determined to get it right, the next night I decided I would try it again, same recipe and everything, just cooking it 3 hours less. Well, it was fantastic and I'm excited to share!

Ingredients:

3 Cups Cheddar Cheese (or cheese of your liking)
Cooking Spay
12 oz (1 can) Evaporated milk
1 1/2 Cup Milk
1 lbs UNCOOKED Macaroni
(I sorta eyeballed it since I had a 3 lbs box - go big or go home right?)

How To Cook:

1. Spray (heavily) slow-cooker with cooking spray

2. Place in slow-cooker: UNCOOKED macaroni (it will cook in the slow-cooker), evaporated milk, milk, 2 1/2 cups cheese

3. Mix thoroughly

4. Add remainder 1/2 cup of cheese on top

5. Set Slow-Cooker to low and cook for 3-4 hours. Cook until macaroni is tender.

6. Stir before serving and ENJOY!

This is such a simple recipe and you can easily modify it to your liking! Please let me know if you've tried this, modified it, or have any recommendations!

  1. Now, I make a mean mac-n-cheese. I haven't tried it in the crockpot yet. I am so tempted, though. I might have to give it a go, since you have such simple instructions. Nice blog header.

  3. I need to try this. I've only tried making mac b cheese with real cheese instead of the powder stuff once and it was SO gross. LOL Hope this works for me this time. :)
